What They’re Saying

“The album ['Roll Away'] is a grenade launcher; it's an incendiary device. It's a melodic, melancholy and effervescent cannon ball set to music.”
- Jason Hood, Aspen Daily News

“He [Davy Knowles] rocks, he jams, he shreds, he does whatever it is that guitarists do when they're amazing.” - Jessica Roberts, LAist

5/4/07 - From Seattle promoter, Jeff Trisler:
“Holy S*#@. Unbelievable. Best thing I’ve heard since I can’t remember when.”

5/4/07 - From Jennifer Cates, the Producer of “Live At 9” WREG-TV (Memphis CBS affiliate) after their live performance on the show:
“They were FANTASTIC. We got so many compliments on them.”

5/7/07 - From Barry Leff, Beale Street Blues Fest. promoter:
“The show was incredible!!! They went down great.”

March, 2007, SXSW:
I heard the spirit of Jimi Hendrix coming from the open, streetside windows of a joint called B.D. Riley's. It was ‘Red House,’ executed superbly by a surprisingly young trio called Back Door Slam, from the Isle of Man in the U.K. The club was packed and so was the street outside. Folks were transfixed by this kid on guitar [Davy Knowles] who played with a fiery spirit and sang with conviction, making the song his own.
Black Door Slam plays again Thursday night at a showcase of U.K. bands and I'm not going to miss it.
—Patrick MacDonald, Seattle Times Rock Desk, SXSW 2007

3/27/07, from Keith Spera, The New Orleans Times-Picayune, at SXSW:
He [Davy Knowles] absolutely tore a hole in Jimi Hendrix’s ‘Red House’...

5/10/07, from Sara Winter, The Messina Group/AEG Live (Houston): I would just like to say that this band [Back Door Slam] blew me away. I didn’t have the opportunity to see them while they were at SXSW, but this band is definitely the real thing. It was amazing to hear such a solid sound out of such young guys. Stellar performance...

5/11/07, from Sara McGoldrick, C3 Presents (Austin):
The show at the Continental was great last night! They really put on a tremendous live show...

5/11/07, from Quinn Donahue, C3 Presents (Austin):
I went and saw BDS last night and was completely blown away. For one, I’ve never seen the second band on a bill get an encore...The crowd absolutely loved them and demanded they play more. SRV is an institution down here and those boys did him justice. I was smiling the entire time; it’s good to see that this music is not dead!
